A one, two punch!

Hanna

Gustov

Wow, I guess we are going to be getting a 1, 2 and a 3rd punch this hurrican season. We JUST got rid of Fay and now Gustov is causing mandatory evacuations in New Orleans and thats not all, now we also have Hanna to deal with as well. The cone looks like Fay soaked Florida my get it again! I think that it's so strange how some years there are no hurricanes in the area of Florida and then some years it feels like we are getting hit with them all. I am praying for the people of New Orleans as well. I could not imagine living in an area that is under sea level like that and is reliant on levies that did not hold up the last time. I would feel like a sitting duck to tell you the truth because who is to say that the levies might not fail just because. May not take as much as a hurricane.

Stem Cells from Wisdom Teeth

Wow!This is a first for me. I have heard that you can obtain stem cells from umbilical cord blood and from blood from a woman's cycle and of course from unborn babies (which I do not like at all). But now the Japanese have found a way to obtain them from non other than wisdom teeth. How cool is that? And the sample that was tested was from a 10 year old who's tooth had been placed in a freezer for 3 years. Maybe I should wait to get my 4 wisdom teeth pulled?

Yoda Cat

I thought that I would do a more lighthearted post today. There is a cat from Illinois that has four ear flaps and of course his name is Yoda. I think that is so cute! I have called my cat that before as well because he is a black cat that *bottle fed him from 1 day old* that has ears probably a little more on the side of his head then some cats. So cute! Anyway, this cat has four ear flaps and is the cutest little guy! It is a genetic abnormality and all the vets that have checked him out say that he is okay. The owners have gotten him chipped so that he doesn't get stolen and keep him inside as well.
When I was growing up I had a friend that has a kitten that had two faces. It did not survive though but I did get to see it while it was still alive which was really creepy and cool at the same time.
I would love to have this cat! Wouldn't you?

Free Screenings for Skin Cancer

Free screenings for skin cancer.

If you don't have health insurance and can't afford to go get screened for skin cancer, this is a good resource for you. There are physician's around the country that volunteer their time to do free screenings. We are lucky enough to have health insurance but if we didn't have it, I would go and make my husband go as well as he had a lot of skin cancer in his family.

Hope this is a benefit to someone out there.

Surfer's Myelopathy

Wow I just found out about this syndrome that affects first time surfers. The name of it is Surfer's Myelopathy. So not only do surfers have to watch out for rocks, drowning or the occasional shark but they also have this to also be concerned about. Apparently when a surfer arches their back while laying on their stomach they are cutting off blood in the blood vessels. This in some cases can actually crimp a vessel which in turn can paralyze the surfer. Most people do not know about it. Apparently the sooner that a surfer gets to the hospital following a possible problem, the better their chances of getting better. The signs are having problems urinating and problems walking.
